Are you planning a family vacation to the Smoky Mountains? We wanted to help you out by sharing a list of 5 things to do in the Smoky Mountains with kids. We love seeing families happy and enjoying themselves during their time at our Sevierville hotel. We hope that you’ll find the list helpful and that you’ll make us a part of your experience in the Smokies!
1. Go Exploring in Our Great Smoky Mountains National Park
The beautiful Great Smoky Mountains National Park sees more visitors every year than any other national park in America. For decades now it’s been the destination for families and a place where lifelong memories have been made. During your time in the Smokies, explore the park and all that it has to offer. Stop in at Sugarlands Visitor Center for maps and helpful park info. Take a walk along the Gatlinburg Trail, visit Cataract Falls, to a trip to Cades Cove, or to Elkmont to visit the historical vacation homes and hike the Little River Trail. With 520,000 acres of land and close to 900 miles of trails the possibilities are endless! If you need extra help with planning your time in the park, stop off at the NOC in Gatlinburg. It’s located near the Gatlinburg entrance to the park and the staff can help you with everything from the daily weather forecast to setting up a guided hike with A Walk in The Woods.
2. Spend Time at Anakeesta
Anakeesta is a place where magic meets the mountains above downtown Gatlinburg. Since opening in 2017, the park has become one of the most loved places in the Smoky Mountains, especially among families. You’ll arrive at Anakeesta in downtown Gatlinburg and then take a chairlift, gondola, or their Ridge Rambler to the top of Anakeesta Mountain. Once you’re at the top you’ll find a world filled with family fun. Their Treeventure Course, AnaVista Tower, Rail Runner, Dueling Zipline, Treetop Skywalk and more will keep both you and the kids entertained. Anakeesta also does a wonderful job of celebrating every holiday with special opportunities and beauty added throughout the park. Check their website for details on upcoming events and to purchase tickets online.
3. Make Memories at Dollywood
Another classic spot for memory making for families in the Smoky Mountains is Dollywood. From Christmas time events to summer fun and experiencing autumn all aglow with Great Pumpkins LumniNights, there’s always something exciting happening at Dollywood. Get lost in a sparkling world of Christmas lights, ride rollercoasters, attend events and enjoy the entertainment, shop, or dine. Everyone in the family will find something that they love about a trip to Dollywood. If you visit and can’t wait to return, purchase a season pass and visit us at least every season!
4. Visit RainForest Adventures Discovery Zoo
Just down the road from our Sevierville hotel you’ll find the opportunity to take a trip to the tropics and meet residents of the rainforest. Visiting on a rainy day? This is a perfect way to get out and explore but also stay warm and dry. With over 600 species to see both educational and hands-on opportunities RainForest Adventures Discovery Zoo is a great place to have fun and learn at the same time.
5. Stroll Among the Sharks at Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies
Speaking of non-human guests to the Smokies, did you know we have sharks in the Smokies? In the heart of downtown Gatlinburg is one of the top aquariums in the country. Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies is one of the top attractions in the Smoky Mountains that you don’t want to miss! The kids will love their time at the aquarium but you’ll also find yourself in awe of the incredible sea creatures and experiences that Ripley’s offers to their guests. Are you a homeschool family? Do you have children with sensory needs? Take a peek at Ripley’s website for information on their special events that you’ll want to take advantage of during your visit to the Smoky Mountains.
