Planning a trip to Sevierville and the Great Smoky Mountains for the first time can be a bit overwhelming because the area offers so many wonderful things to do and places to see. We wanted to help make the planning process a bit easier for first-time guests by listing 4 of the top things to do during your first vacation in our beautiful corner of Appalachia.
1. Visit the Great Smoky Mountains National Park
First and foremost, you have to experience at least one day in our Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The park welcomes over 12 million people a year and is the most visited national park in America. All it takes is one scenic drive, an afternoon of exploring, or hiking a trail to understand why folks from all over the world have made it a top vacation destination. Cades Cove is open year-round and is filled with history, wildlife and beauty. Take a hike during any season to discover a deeper appreciation for the Smokies, and if you’re up for a challenge, trek up to the summit of Mount LeConte, Rocky Top or Mount Cammerer. If you’re visiting during the spring, summer, or early fall, take a drive and enjoy the incredible views from Clingmans Dome, the highest point in the park. That’s also an excellent time to wander the Roaring Fork Motor Trail. The possibilities are endless, just be sure to spend a portion of your vacation visiting the park.
2. Shop at Tanger
During your stay at our Sevierville hotel, you’ll have easy access from another top destination, but only this time for shopping. Tanger Outlets is located near our hotel and offers the opportunity to shop at numerous brand name and designer stores that offer their goods at an outlet price. Save money and take home top of line brands? Yes, and staying with us makes doing simple and convenient.
3. Spend a Day at Dollywood
Sevierville is the hometown of America’s sweetheart, Dolly Parton. If you’re visiting for the first-time then you should certainly consider having a day that is “All Things Dolly” and the best way to do so is by spending the day at Dollywood. You’ll find rides, shows, food, shops, restaurants, and just about anything else that you can think of that includes fun times with friends and family. After you finish up at the theme park stop off at 125 Court Ave in downtown Sevierville and take a photo with the infamous Dolly Parton Statue!
4. Experience Five Oaks
Last but not least, during your first time vacationing in the Smokies, you should have a Five Oaks experience. Our hotel sits on property that has been in our owners’ family since the 1920’s and was once the Five Oaks Farm. Today, the property isn’t exactly the same, but all of the family value and traditions remain the same. Experiencing time on the Five Oaks property gives you a great idea of what life was like in Sevierville 100 years ago. Behind our hotel you’ll find the Five Oaks Riding Stables and Adventure Park. Take a horseback ride for a stunning view of the Great Smoky Mountains and to get a glimpse of what life was like when Dr. John W. Ogle and his wife Blanche lived on the property and bred Tennessee Walking Horses. Dine at Five Oaks Farm Kitchen next door and you’ll fill up on good old fashioned dishes that were inspired by Granny Blanche’s kitchen. Make a visit to the Ogle Brothers General Store to watch Jason Gore create pottery onsite, browse a wonderful selection of gifts and souvenirs, or purchase fresh made cookies and truffles. A trip to Cruze Farm Dairy and wrapping up the day with an ice cream cone while you kick back in one of the rocking chairs and take in views of the Smokies.
