The best way to experience this unique part of Tennessee is by taking the Rocky Top Wine Trail, which includes five wineries and a local distillery where you can sample more than 70 varieties of wine! Here is everything you need to know about exploring the Rocky Top Wine Trail:
1. How to Complete the Trail
You may start the Rocky Top Wine Trail at any of the six wineries and distilleries along the trail, which is completely free to access! After stopping at your first location, be sure to pick up a passport and present it at each location to receive a stamp. Once you have visited 3 of the locations, you will receive a free gift! If you finish the trail and visit all 6 of the locations, you will receive another free gift! The entire trail doesn’t have to be completed in one day you so can turn the Rocky Top Wine Trail into several days of fun! We recommend that you slow down to take your time sampling the many different options at each location and enjoy lunch in between wineries.
2. About the Wineries
Each of the separately owned wineries along the Rocky Top Wine Trail has its own unique style and ambiance, but all locations have a friendly staff who is eager to welcome your arrival! The stops on the trail include the Hillside Winery and Apple Barn Winery in Sevierville, Mountain Valley Winery and Mill Bridge Winery in Pigeon Forge, and the Doc Collier Moonshine Distillery and Sugarland Cellars in Gatlinburg. All 6 locations are open 7 days per week for your convenience!
3. Free Wine Tastings and Tours
Every location features free wine tastings so that you can sample some of the distinct flavors of Smoky Mountain Wine Country. You can also enjoy complimentary tours of the wine cellars and tank rooms each day from noon until 5 p.m. at the Mountain Valley Winery, Sugarland Cellars and Hillside Winery. Since the Rocky Top Wine Trail is a self-guided driving tour, we recommend a designated driver.
